When I was driving the other day I avoided a nasty pothole and by doing so it lined me right up to hit the one infront of it, which I didnt see. Well my car started popping really bad after I hit it. Well I took pictures of the pothole. I was wondering how to go about contacting the city and getting them to pay me or at least reimberse me for the damage to my car.

cant happen..govt is mostly immune from lawsuits..if you were killed or injured u might have a case if you can prove they knew of problem and did nothing

Best bet is to get the car looked at. Have all your documenattion and pictures of the damge to the car and the potholes in the street as well. Pay a visit to your local City Hall and ask to speak with a representative. If you get no where, then make an appointment to see the Mayor and file your complaint. If all else fails, visit an attourney, usually the 1st consultation is free. Always make copies of your documents, repair estimates and pics. I would even go as far as going back to the street where the pothole is located and video tape all the cars trying to avoid the same potholes as you. Keep complaining, keep calling. One day someone will have to listen. Dont wait until the repairs in the street have been made.
good luck.........

I live in Toronto, and I'm afraid that it is wishful thinking if you believe the city will compensate anyone with damage due to a pothole. The only way that you might be able to score some compensation would be to hire a lawyer and go through civil court. You're best bet would be to find evidence that the hole was there and neglected for a long period of time to show neglegence. Good Luck

well the city usually has a not responsible clause so that we drivers are stuck with whatever happens. but if the pothole has been there for a long time and was not fixed you can try.

sometimes cityhall will reimburse drivers for road hazzards but it will take some time, i mean alot.

call city hall to get a claim sheet and send a copy of your repair bills along with a photo and explaination on what happen, then cross your fingers.

to contact the city you can look it up on the internet.

hope this helps
and good luck

good luck. in my town the policy is someone has to have reported the pothole and proof that the city hasn't done anything for 3 weeks, if so you get damage estimate and city will cover 3/4 the bill. Now, do you think the city is going to tell me name of the person who reported it so I can get proof that it's past the deadline... the city falls under normal wear and tear as to roads.. You can try the suggestions and see if anything can happen, but doubtful.. best of luck.
