well u have heard alot of Acronis true image
let me tell u what i would do
i would go to a torrent site ...(or buy)..acronis disk director
then i would use that to create a new partition on my pc
then i would also download or buy...Acronis true image.
then i would create a image with acronis true image...save it to the new partition u just created..
now anytime ur computer acts up...viruses..or for any reason
u can boot ur computer from the acronis image and it will restart pc to the image u created.....
what this does...say u buy a new compaq pc from best buy
it does not come with a windows disc.
u have the option to MAKE ur own back up disc
or u can reboot pc and tap f10 to reset pc to factory settings
that is pretty much the same thing acronis is doing
but acronis is backing up ALL UR STUFF not just windows folders
Acronis will back up ...music..movies...programs..games..
if u want to back up files
it will take u approximately 8 to 10 cd's to save everything
( IF U ARE STARTING WITH A FRESH COPY OF WINDOWS)
IF U HAVE ALOT OF STUFF ON PC....THEN IT WILL BE MORE CD'S)
if u are low on funds and cant afford to pay for acronis or norton ghost
here is a link for free back up utilities
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS213&q=free+back+up+programs

please follow instructions if u choose one of these
one more thing...i said i would create new partition...(u have to create a partition big enough to back up all files on..
i have a 160 gb hard drive....i took 60 and created new partition
so now i have a 100gb on 1 drive
and 60 on other drive/partition

A CD is poor quality and on large system, does not have enough storage space to back up a whole system. Personally a Cd is also still very easy to lose.

I back up my system on a 500GB external hard drive once a week. This is more secure method of backing up and is much faster, but you have to be careful to reduce the chance of data corruption.

If you find out how to fit 60GB on a CD please do tell. Other than that you could use about 60 regular CD's at 744mb, or you could use a DVD burner, BlueRay drive which is way up there in price, or you could rent space online for backup. I would only try to back up the main files you need on a jumpHard drive, they can hold up to 3-10 GB last time I checked, its a simple usb hard drive....

Yes, you can backup your entire PC but you will need more than one CD. You can do it with Acronis True Image. It can make a bootable disk that will allow you to restore all your data and settings even in case of system crash. Anyway I recommend you to use external HD or DVDs for storing your backup images there. Follow the link to learn more: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

You couldn't do it on one CD, maybe a DVD. But if you follow these steps you can create a backup, but this is more for saving data, if your computer ever crashes you will need the CD's that came with your computer to restore it.
To backup data, click start, all programs, accessoreis, system tools, backup.

Generally you will not be able to back up programs due to inaccessible hidden files. If you data is smaller than the CD you can do this. Other methods include backing up to DVD or an additional hard drive (internal or external).

Yes. Download the trial version of Acronis True Image; this is the easiest disk image software I've ever used and it can usually do the job in less than about 20 minutes. If you want a true disc to disc copy, it will take a bit longer.

Not since Windows XP, it is too large to fit on a CD, however you should be able to back it up with a DVD, and a utility like Symantec Ghost.

you could do it but you'd need a lot of cds... a more practical way would be dvds but you' need a dvd burner and it would still take a lot of them. the best way is getting an external harddrive to use for backup.
