I am trying to find a job an I know of a few buildings that have various kinds of customer service, inbound and outbound telemarketing jobs. Should I have a cover letter for each one? Should I have copies of resumes with different objectives on each? Should I leave the resume with the receptionist or should I try to leave with an HR manager? I just want to take some initiative versus trying to look through the want ads.

Don't bring the resume in to the office in person. Most places do not want the traffic of people just walking in. Get the address of the places you are interested in and send them your resume. Do a pleasant (but not long) cover letter letting them know you are interested in working for them and would like to be considered for any openings or future openings. Don't worry about the objective line on a resume, I usually don't even read them to be honest with you. (And I took it off of my resume for the same reason.) Continue sending out resumes to places you are interested in and you may be surprised, they may have an opening that they have not posted and can bring you right in. (If you are looking for call center work you may consider looking at the local airport and airlines there, they are usually hiring for customer service jobs).

Good luck!

I applaud your efforts!! Most companies are always looking for quality employees to hire, and few of them actually advertise any positions.

First off, research the company on the internet. This will let you know what that particular company is looking for, and allow you to taylor your resume and cover letter to reflect that. I'm not saying to lie on your resume!!! Just taylor your accomplishments to match what the company is looking for.

You have a couple of options that you can do to get your resume seen.

As you mentioned, you can walk it down in person. Try to get the name of the HR person prior to going in. If you can schedule an appointment, or at the very least walk in with the person's name, then you have a better chance.

The other is to go to the company website. Most major companies have a link that will allow you to submit your resume and any attachments (cover letter, letters of recommendation, etc).

Good Luck!!

Just send a resume along with a cover letter and they will keep it on file. You may also want to deliver these in person. I have worked for companies that have found someone with a very good resume and hired them even though they really didn't have a position to fill.

What a good idea. I say look at websites and perform an informational interview. You can build your network of cotnacts that way. Not everyone I know found a job this way, so good luck.
