Real wool holds up better in the wash as most clothing detergents like Tide and Woolite are made for natural fibers like wool or cotton. Most detergents will cause the fibers in anything acrylic or synthetic to crack, pill or loose its shape because certain chemicals in these detergents attach to the woven fibers during the wash cycle. Though some natual wools require hand washing or dry cleaning to protect the colors used or keep the wool from shrinking.

The prices on natural wool sweaters can be more expensive depending on the weaving style and type of wool used in the construction as well. Synthetic materials are always cheaper.

Real wool can be more itchy or irritating to the skin, but at the same time, some people can have allergic reactions to sythetic fibers as well. Aside from lasting longer in the wash its more of a personal preference as to which most people prefer.

Big pro for acrylic is that they're easier to wash and you don't have to worry about moths. But, I think wool is more comfortable. Although they both pill, wools pilling looks more natural. Acrylic just feels and looks synthetic to me.
