I was listening to a bunch of very good jazz musicians lament the dearth of paying or even non-paying jazz gigs. Does instrumental jazz just seem to obscure an inaccessible? Do you like jazz? What could jazz musicians and promotors do to attract you away from your computer and Nintendo Wii and out to see and hear more jazz??

Where I live (Sydney, Australia) unfortunately most of the pubs and clubs here have been over-run with pokie (slot) machines and most publicans / owners can't or wont support live music in any form , let alone Jazz. So its not a matter of Jazz music being obscure, just there is not much support for live music. I would love to hear some good instrumental jazz music , but there are not many venues that will support it.

I love going to jazz shows. There's nothing better, well....except one thing.

If people went, just once, to a really good jazz show, then they would know. I would suggest giving a few live performances that are easy to attend. After that, they'll pay a little money, if it was good.
