Most perle cotton that is put up on cones is generally only available by mail or internet order, actually. While you may find one or two shops that carry some of it, it's mainly an on order item. Why? It doesn't move fast enough for most shops to carry enough of it to make it worth while. Depending on how large a cone you want, try Webs (www.yarn.com) for these mercerized cotton yarns in bulk. Also, rather than a knitting or crochet yarn shop look for a shop that specializes in weaving supplies, since the sizes you cite, 3/2 and 10/2, are actually sizes of weaving yarns. Weaving yarns can also be used for knitting, crochet, and tatting, btw. You may be more likely to find a weaving oriented shop closer to Chicago, however, I do have several friends who buy their weaving supplies in that area.

Try Bonnie Triola Yarns -- they have just moved from Erie PA to the Cleveland area... 440-229-1445. They chiefly do mailorder, phone-order and web-order. The prices are good, many items discounted.

If they don't have the sizes or colors you want in stock, they are dealers for Silk City yarns and can order 3/2, 5/2, and 10/2 perle cottons from them. (follow Silk City links to color chart page)
