I just started selling candles that I sell through a website based in IL. I am in TX. Does anyone know if I need to charge sales taxes, or get a tax id? I looked at the TX website, but it is very "legally" worded.

Even if it is shipped directly from IL to a customer in TX?

The location of the Web site is irrelevant. What is relevant is the location of buyer and seller. If they are located in the same state, and the buyer is purchasing the product for personal consumption (as opposed to resale or use in business), sales tax is due.

In your case, you need to charge sales taxes to all customers in Texas.
