The answer is not the best type. But its battery arrangement. Even larger batteries will fail in extremely cold weather.

You can get more starting power with two smaller batteries in tandem (connected in parallel) rather than one large one.

Get the most cold cranking amps(cca) that will fit your vehicle. It's how they rate batteries.
