At one point, yes she was. If you haven't already - you should listen to her latest song "I Am Not My Hair" featuring Akon. It kinda goes through all that she's done with it and people's reactions to the changes but in the end, her hair does not define who she is or what she believes in. I like her a lot, she's well rooted and grounded. If you read or listen to interviews of her, you'll notice that she talks about her grandmother a lot and the life lessons that she has learnt from her.

Yes she was after she cut off her locs that had grew done to her lower back. It was a symbol of her evolvement & growth into the woman she was striving to be. Kind of like a re-birth for her. She's growing her hair back out now but keeping it natural, no chemicals and no locs.
