my car (2002 xterra) just started to struggle to turn on this past week after the weather got a bit colder. Also, my car alarm has been acting strangely. It seems like everything is pointing towards getting a new battery, but is there anything else I should check?

The battery is 5 years old anyway, so no matter what other indications you need to see, buy a new one.

Go to Autozone or Pep Boys and have them load test battery. Five years is an acceptable life span of a battery.

Check to make sure the battery terminals are clean. tHIS CAN CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS BAD BATTERY.
