I am considering writing my graduate thesis on abuse and exploitation by UN workers and peacekeepers. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a specific angle I could approach this from... I can examine the regulations in place to deal with this type of issue, how these can be enforced - if the UN really has any power to enforce punishments for the crime. But this is just examining the issue, I don't know how I can maek this more thesis worthy - in other words even if I had suggestions I wouldn't be able to put them in place and examine the outcome... I don't know what else I could do with this topic.

I wasn't aware that the UN was responsible for any abuses, giving the fact that they are so ineffective. So many countries with different ideologies and beliefs even goverments can never effectively get anything accomplished (coalition of the willing comes to mind).

From the way you pose your question I can see that you are well on your way to writing a good thesis. Your question is very well put.

May I suggest an angle: Perhaps you can look into the abuses that the US imposes on the world through the UN. Or how the UN is merely a US puppet. Ok maybe thats pushing it, but you can concentrate on the ineffectiveness of the UN.

Hope this helps. God I wish I went to college.....

the UN as failed politics. If you consider the UN resolution that was in place after the Holocaust to ban genocide. Look at the resolve of the members to address the issue when it became rule. Then add 30 years and see how hard the side step the issue of genocide by avoiding to use the terminology. If the call it genocide, they would have to act. But if it is an attempt of ethnic cleansing, then they can stand by and shake a finger.
