This questions has been posted once. By my mother, i have followed the instructions given. But once i go into safe mode, and logd on as the administrator. I am havin the same problem. (prob below)
Whats is happening is we have Windows XP. When you select any of the 4 accounts to log into , i get the message saying its loading my preferences etc.. All goes well, until you notice that same prompt box that says loading your settings, all of a sudden says logging off. So i can't even get into any of the files or desktop etc.
Any suggestions? Its very important we don't lose everything, have my moms wedding pictures etc on this pc.
Shut down the computer and restart it in safe mode. Hit the "f8" key just before you see the windows logo. Log in as administrator, there should be no password. If you can login, run a full virus scan. You can then reboot and try to access your accounts again. Or you can use explore in safe mode to find the pics and copy them to a cd.
HELP PLEASE

i would just remove the hard drive & connect it into another desktop pc installed with a good anti-virus programme > as a secondary hard drive

run the anti-virus & scan u'r hard drive too
& get rid of the virus !

then put it back on original pc & run it as earlier

>> may sound not-so-simple to you
in which case, get someone to do it for you
a friend or professional

also copy the data, pictures & all onto a cd / dvd for safe keeping

Sounds like you might have to install XP again. If you install it to the same partition but do not format the partition you should still be able to navigate to your pictures from My computer. Then I would do a proper clean re-install of XP to avoid further problems in the future

Go here:

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Get the Ultimate Boot CD and start your computer with the CD it creates. Then you can navigate to the folder where the files live and copy them off.
