The answer to this question goes back to when Evolution was at its peak. Ric Flair represented the past, and already had the nickname "Nature Boy". Triple H represented the present, and already had several nicknames (my favorite one being "Cerebral Assassin"). Batista and Randy Orton both represented the future.
At its root, evolution (lower-case because I'm not talking about the faction for the moment) has a lot to do with animals. Scientists believe that human beings evolved from monkeys, to provide the most obvious example of evolution.
Back to the faction, who looked more like an animal? Was it the "golden boy" Randy Orton? Nope. It was the 300+lb. powerhouse Batista. The nickname stuck, even when Evolution became no more.
