Hey Chris-
You, as many Answers users, seem to have a somewhat distorted view of the auto industry in general.
A Volvo is still a Volvo, and a Ford is still a Ford.
Many (if not all) Automobile Companies have interests and/or share technology with others & have done so for years.
As for Ford Motor Company, its acquisitions have included (either wholly, or controlling interests):
Volvo-since 1999
Jaguar- since 1989
Mazda - since 1988
LandRover - since 2000
Astin Martin - since 1987
These companies (also Lincoln & Mercury) have shared, technology, componants, platforms, models, etc. for years.
Ford also has alliances with many other companies, and countries.
All of those interests & alliances have benefitted from Ford & vice versa.
Jaguar especially!
Before Ford took over, Jaguars were notorious for quality & reliability problems, & have since improved tremendously.
Volvo still has an impecable safety reputation, & has shared technology with their parent company (Ford) & that has improved Fords safety.
The Ford FiveHundred is one of the safest vehicles on the road & is based on a Volvo platform.
Buy yourself a nice car, & base your buying decision on the vehicle that suits your individual needs.

I think you're prejudging most of these vehicles without doing your research.
First do your research on where these vehicles are made and how they were developed and then start calling Jaguars Fords (crazy!)
The fact is, Volvos are made where they have always been made. So are Jaguars. Ford borrowed some of the technology that it now owns from Volvo to improve the Ford brands, and not the other way around.
Keep in mind, Jaguar was going to close it's doors forever when Ford bought them. Ford helped Jag out by providing manufacturing expertise to help save money, but Jaguars are still meticulously made.
And Ford only owns a percentage of Mazda, and most of Fords current car designs are based on Mazda's proven designs.
So to answer your questions: Yes, Vovlos are still some of the safest and most reliable vehicles on the planet. And no, Volvo still makes Volvos. Ford just ones the name brand.

This is sad...
Are you judging the car based on who owns the title to the company? How about checking the service records, etc.?
Jaguar had horrible quality/reliability long before Ford had anything to do with them - they've actually improved under Ford, IMHO.
I had a cousin bought a Saab and loves it. Then I told him GM owns Saab, and now he's upset. What does that mean?
What I'm saying is judge the car on its merits, not on some pre-conceived notion of who you think makes good cars. You might be surprised how good the 'bad' cars are...

Volvo is probably one of the best cars, in terms of safety, reliability and over-all performance value. Who cares if the company is owned by Ford? Jaguar is also owned by FoMoCo, but they have actually improved since being taken over by the Dearborn giant. I'd buy one in a heartbeat, if I could afford it...

Yes Volvo is still made by ford. If you want to by a good new car, I would look into Acura or Honda, I have owned several and have never had any problems out of them.

jaguars are ugly now that ford has bought them. they used to look unique and classy and now they look just like hyundai or something. i want a classic jag. i agree with dude tho. Hondas are great and very reliable. My dad owns one with 250,000 miles on it and it still running strong. only major repair was replacing the transmission and thats only because the previous owner never flushed the transmission.
