GPA is Grade Point Average

so....

A=4
B=3
C=2
D=1
F=0

And an A+ is a "A" and a B- is a "B"

so here is how you calculate GPA
you add the numbers up and divide by the total to the number of grades. So...

4+4+4+4+4+3=23

So 23 divided by 6. I divided by 6 because there were 6 grades that were added.

23/6=3.83

Your daughter has a GPA of 3.83
That is a great GPA!!!

It's great because the maxium GPA is 4.0 so she got 3.83/4.0

So her Average Grade is a 95% That's an A.
Good job raising an A student!!!

An A is 4, B is 3, C is 2 and D is 1. F is 0
Then you muliply by the hours.. So an A in a 4 hour course is 16, while an A in a one hour course is 4.
Now you add up all the grade-hours and divide by the total hours. Not sure about the pluses and minuses. Probably they count at a half point. The problem then is,what is the difference between an A- and a B+ ?
That is why they are non-specific about the exact GPA.

It depends on the classes she is taking if the classes are dual enrollment or advanced then they can be worth more and some school use gpa systems that only go to 4 where some go to 5. I dont know how old she is. So the way my school did it was like this

A+ = 4.5 x 2
A = 4 x 3
B- = 3
but this is how we did it in high school
so 9+12+3 = 24 divided by 6 for number of classes gives you 4.0

if it is on a 4. 0 scale then
A+= 4 x 2
A = 4x3
B= 3x1
23/6 = 3.83 but i dont know if this is correct i am just going by what my 12 year old neice says her school goes by

Any way you do it she is doing very well and should be proud!

GPA is calculated as follows:
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
and of course F = 0.

Sum up all of the grades. In your case the total would be 4+4+4+4+4+3 = 23
Then divide by the number of grades. In your case 6 ( 5 A's and 1 B).

Her GPA will equal 23 divided by 6 = 3.83.

They calculate grade point usually by assigning a number to each letter grade. for example an A=4 A-=3.7 and then you calculate the total amount of points and divide that by the number of credits you are taking. That is how it is done for college.

A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0 etc...

and the minus and plus is usually +-.3 from the letter grade she received

then add them up and divide by how many courses

4.2+4.2+4.0+4.0+4.0+2.75 = 23.15

23.15/6 = 3.858

The same as any other average - total points divided by the number of entries.

Hope this helps!
