Can't go through the gate in Animal crossing DS?

That gate lets you go online and visit other users' towns.
You need to have your DS configured for wireless web access. See the manual - too many options to describe here, but it's simple enough to do.
You will also need the "friend code" of the person's town you want to visit. Nintendo only lets you see known friends online - you can't just go visit random people. This is more kid-safe.
