I Guess it would depend on your definition of an Old World Crop.

I would Think That rice would qualify. It was grown on the west coast of Africa in the 17th century (other areas in Asia well before this). Slaves from Africa's west coast with knowledge of rice growing techniques were imported to the US specifically to assist in cultivating rice there.

I'm not 100% sure that cotton is an Old World crop (unless you count Asia), still cotton was not initially a big crop in the US. Demand for cotton grew greatly after the industrial revolution and the opening of textile mills in the UK. And Sugar (again unless you count Asia as old world) and Tobacco aren't old world crops.

I suppose by the same argument for rice though could be made for Sugar. You could argue that since the Portuguese bought it back with them from Asia in the late 15th century, that qualifies it as an old world crop.

Failing any of these then it would be as Michael B said, indigo.

Inital slave trade in the Americas was started by Christopher Columbus to promote the growth of sugar cane in the Carribean. This sugar led to the sale of molasses, rum, etc, which brought large amounts of revenue to the islands. It is for this reason that the United States later wanted to induct many of the nations into our own. It all goes back to the sugar cane crop.

Slavery is an ancient practice. We know for certain it was practiced in Rome and before that, in Egypt. So your question really doesn't make much sense. In ancient times, slaves were used for a wide variety of things, not just agriculture.
