I work at a billing office in a hospital. What has happened is that since ur Medicaid was cancelled early, it went to private pay, meaning you pay. This can be easily fixed by calling the hospital billing office and give them your Medicaid number and tell them to resubmit.

Do what the medicaid office is telling you to do. Wether you are on any kind of medicaid assistance, you will still receive bills and the people billing you do expect you to pay. But if you call them and let them know what is happening, sometimes they will lay off for a month or two for you to get your "medicaid" or state assistance issues worked out.
Keep all the bills that you get, keep them organized, because eventually you will need to take note of what has been paid and what hasn't and have to send some copies of the bills over to medicaid.
good luck to you, i know its a pain, but if medicaid made a mistake, they will correct it, it will just take time.

400 dollars? wow, if the total cost of having a baby (my portion) was only 400 dollars, I'd be stoked! :)
I have blue cross with two seperate 1,500 dollar deductables (one for prenatal visits one for ER) .. so a minimum of 3,000 dollars and then 10% of whatever the rest of the cost is.
as for you, well, I worked at a medical clinic for a while .. you'll just have to call your medicaid office (I'm in california .. so I think medicaid is the same as medi-cal in california? state benefit?) and tell them that your due dates were wrong and they most likely will put a note in the computer and extend your benefits .. then you will have to have the hospital re-submit the bills and the medicaid should pick it up!
I've worked in billing and they're pretty good about fixing those errors. Especially since its known when the baby was born .. so the dates should easily be fixed!
good luck! God bless!

Call the medicaid number and let them know again what is going on. Ask to speak to a supervisor this time. Also, call the hospital and speak to someone in billing and explain to them what has happened. If they are not helpful then ask for someone in the Human Service department at the hospital and see what they say.

Some things aren't covered at certain hospitals but you should've bee notified ahead of time. I'd call the hospital and find out what the charge was for and then contact medicaid again, and verify with them that its covered. If it is contact your old Medicaid worker and she should be able to help you get things straightened out. Good Luck.

I work in a doctors office and I do not know much about Medicaid because we do not except it here, but from what I know you are still responsible for a very small portion of your bill. If all you owe is $400 that is pretty darn good. Having my baby is going to cost us around $3,000 and we have insurance. If you do owe that money they hospital should set up payment arrangements with you that you can afford.

It depends on what the charges are for. There are some tests that are not covered, like the DS test. There are also some hospital charges that are not covered, like having a private room vs. a semi-private, circumcision is not covered and any extra medical supplies that you specifically request from the nurse or doctor are also not covered. You should check with the regulations of your state's insurance. Every state is different, and your health care provider is not privy to these things and won't tell you up front if you are going to be charged or not.

You need to call the Medicaid caseworker again and make sure that the mix up was fixed and that it reflects you had coverage in the time period you did. Then you need to call the number on the bill and explain the situation and ask them to rebill it. They will... unless.. you let this go so long that it's now in collections/litigation. You can also send the bill directly to the part of Medicaid that pays claims.

No matter the out come it will still be on your credit report. If the charges are refused after so long it will become your responsibility to pay.
I personally dont think medicaid should be free, they should atleast have to pay what a senior has to for their medicare. ( they worked and paid into this.) Which is 98.00 plus a 5.00 copay on precriptions. Per month. If you cant afford to pay that small portion you really shouldnt be having a baby.
