The pond is equipped with an in-filter UV light, but the water is too far gone for it to be effective. There are a few plants growing in the deepest part-- 4 feet-- and there is also a 2 foot waterfall. Along with the koi, there are several shebunkins and some dace.

I would agree with TwoWolves you need moving water and filtering plants such as cat-tails.

I'd also recommend using some barley straw in your pond. See the website below for details about barley straw or do a web search on it.

It will help clear the pond without having to put any chemicals in it.

If it's just standing water could be your problem. If the water was moving (water coming in at one end, then out the other), it would be more natural. Koi are good at cleaning the water but you need moving water, with filtering plants. Cattails are one of natures best water filtering plants. Check with a green pool supplier for natural water filtering. More and more people are using natural water filtration for their swimming pools. But I think you'll have better luck with moving water and filtering plants.

You need to change the water, replace it.

Aerating and filtering of water is critical with koi.
Do not use chemicals.
