Try the following ...
1) Uninstall IE7.
2) Re-install IE7, and when it's done, reboot immediately, whether it prompts you to or not.
If that doesn't work, just stick with IE6 until Microsoft comes out with a service pack for IE7.
The reason for all that: IE7 has been known to break Internet connections if you don't reboot immediately after you install it. Sometimes, the connection breaks even if you do.
If you like IE7, reinstalling is worth a try. If it were me, I'd just stick with IE6 for now. Hope that helps!

Go back to Internet Explorer 6. Here's how:
Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and restore Internet Explorer 6 when using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. You might have to CHECK the box that says SHOW UPDATES
4. Scroll down to Windows Internet Explorer 7, click it, and then click Change/Remove.
If you cannot find Internet Explorer 7 in Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Run, type
%windir%\ie7 \spuninst\spuninst.exe
(I added a space after ie7 so you could see the WHOLE line)
and then press ENTER.
For more information, check this page at the Microsoft website. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/aa740486.aspx
If you have further trouble, you might try the RESTORE thing in the System Tools folder and go back a few days before you made this terrible mistake.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Have you tried getting access to an alternative browser? You may have spyware on your machine, your HOSTS file be tweaked (from spyware, etc).
If you can't get access to the Internet at all from your machine, get to another machine with a USB/thumb-drive drive and download Firefox from http://www.getfirefox.com.
Install it on your aflicted PC and give that a try. If it doesn't work, you may have more troubling issues.
Are you able to use your IM clients? Chat? Anything else related to the internet working for you?
