I really would like a fair explanation from someone unbiased and well informed. People are always fighting, I would like to have some information that would help me form my own opinion about why people feel they need to use violence to help settle religious disputes, and honestly, I'd like to have an opinion on it simply because I've been asked "how do you feel about the warring overseas?"

Someone who takes everything that is written in the quran literally. Problem is that there are lots of contradictions (just like in the bible) and possible interpretations. So some fundamentalists pick out the violent parts (and become terrorists for instance), while others are more into the peace and care for the poor part.

"Fundamentalist" is a term transplanted from the history of 20th century--mostly American--protestant Christianity. Nevertheless, the various currents in various religions that people refer to as fundamentalist do have things in common. Read Martin Marty's "Fundamentalism Project" for more detail on that.

What we usually refer to as Islamic fundamentalism is more properly called Islamism, and is a lineal descendant of Wahabi/Salafi Islam, a strict, conservative form of specifically Sunni Islam. It's goals are basically a strict, literal application of Shariah law in an Islamic world united under a single Caliphate, or successorship to the prophet. It's complicated, hope that helps.

Fundamentalist Muslims never accept or join any anti-Islamic group. They always believe strongly and practice strictly the teachings of Islam in its entirety. They refuse and do not kill innocents, earn dishonestly, take bribes, spend wastefully, indulge in unwed sexual enjoyments, intoxicate, tell lies, grab others lands/countries, enjoy massacre, and obey anybody except the Creator Allah. They are therefore called terrorists and extremists for having no exceptions to commit all sins and crimes, believing that their prophet's blood will clean them.

Someone who believes as closely TODAY to how they believed back in 700 AD.

They tend to wear ultra traditional dress.

They are extremist about the laws of the Qur'an.

They may also follow the other books written long ago, such as the Haddith or Sura.

Think of them as being somewhat close to the Protestant Amish.

Very old fashioned.

Or the Hassidic Jews, who still segrate men and women separately.
