I'm not to sure about that now but back in the day, automatic cars were more expensive than the manual version because the auto trans was relatively new technology and were more expensive to build. These days auto transmissions are so prevalent that it is actually getting harder to find a car with a manual trans. IMO it is because people are getting too lazy to shift for themselves and it is not as hard on a cars components in stop and go traffic. I prefer a manual trans myself. It puts the fun back in driving for me.

Usually the automatic is an option and therefore more expensive. And that's for about 95% of the vehicles.

For some vehicles the manual is the option and therefore more expensive.

Manual transmissions are usually a little cheaper, easier to maintain, better on gas and much more fun to drive! The only fall back is they are normally a little harder to find.

Usually more expensive both to buy and to run. Also there are fewer of them on the market, so they have a rarity value. A lot can depend on where you live.
