I am going to a Laundrette tonight and was wondering how much a normal washing is i.e just a wash and no dry. How long does it take as I have only 1 magazine to read! Do I have to have change or can they give me change when I am there?

Assuming that you haven't got to pay for the flight to the US to take advantage of the ridiculously low costs there..

1.50 to 2.50 a machine and 30 to 45 minutes for the wash.
It's best to take your own change and your own washing powder/softener too.

Cost will depend on how many loads you plan to wash and also what size machine you chose. They provide change there ... either from a vending machine or from an attendant.

Single loaders are usually $1, $2 for double loaders, etc. Drying is approx. $0.25 for 7 to 10 minutes, depending on the laundrette.
*** I strongly recommend adding a disinfectant like LYSOL® Brand Concentrate. You don't know who washed what before you, and it is just better to do so. ***

Wash time is usually 30-45 minutes long. Drying depends on the items ... lighter materials (nylons, polyester) need 20-25 min, cottons and heavier fabrics might need as much as 45.

For the sake of clean clothes, don't overload. Fill the washing machine between halfway but NOT more than three quarters full.

When drying, I like to mix a towel or cotton tee shirt in with the lighter/delicate loads because it will help to keep the lighter fabrics from over-drying and damaging the thinner materials.

Hope this helps!

They usually have televisions and magazines there, depending on the quality of the laundromat. Most of them nowadays have change machines, or a cashier that will give you change, and sell you laundry bags -- at a very high price.

One normal wash is about 15 minutes. Some machines are automated. You add everything, put the quarters and then wait. Other machines require that you add a detergent, bleach, etc at certain time after the cycle has begun. You will be notified of when to add the solution usually with a blinking light and a label.
