Portugal first explored in Africa with Prince Henry the Navigator in the 1460's. Then there was Bartoloweo Diaz who discovered the Cape of Good Hope which led ships tothe Indian Ocean Then they went to Asia with Vasco da Gama in 1497-98 ,opening up Europe with Far Eastern trade and goods and mssionary activity. Lastly they came to America and developed basically in Brazil in which Portuguese is the prominent language there.
