I am 13 weeks pregnant aswell and went to the doctors yesterday who said i have a high level of ketones in my urine.
I got told its because i am not eating properly as i have had flu and now a really bad cough that has been making me sick for the past 2 weeks.
The doctor told me to drink things like lemonade, coke, or lucozade to get the essential sugars back into my body.
Since doing this i havent been sick and my urine has gone back to normal and i have started eating again cause i dont have the feeling that im going to be sick all the time.
I hope this helps

Ketones in urine shows the body is using fat stores for energy and you need to eat to provide your body with energy. If you are feeling sick try eating five small meals a day rather than 3 large ones. Eat cereal or beans on toast if you cant eat anything else as both have added vitamins. Speak to your midwife for advice, midwife wont mind if 4 year old messing in surgery so dont get stressed!

Ketone bodies are produced by the body as a response to 'starvation' (which doesn't have to be a long term state). They provide a source of energy to the brain when there is no glucose.
Ketones are what people on the atkins diet strive for because your body will only produce them when you have no carbohydrates inside you and you have used up your glucose stores.

This could have been the result of morning sickness, or just not having had enough to eat that day. Make sure that you eat regularly and have plenty of healthy snacks to keep your sugar levels up.

Ketones are present in urine when you are burning calories and losing weight. I was in hospital weeks 27-28 of my pregnancy and I had ketones present also - I think it was the hospital food! My consultant at the time told me to eat more, which you need to do more obviously when you are pregnant. Good luck with the pregnancy!

My midwife told me that pregnancy hormones messes with the ketones test. But yes keytones means you are either in need of food or dehydrated. If you feel you are eating well then up your fluid intake and you will be fine. The same thing happened to me.
Congrats on your pregnancy

When I was pregnant they told me I had ketones (a very high level) in my urine and they sent me straight to the hospital. They said basically I was starving myself. Vomiting alot can cause this. I was throwing up so much that i didn't eat. I would suggest you eat so that you don't increase the ketone levels in your urine.

Hi when i was 3 mnths i had mornin sickness all the tym and they sent me to hospital as they thought i was dehydrated due to me constantly bein sick, when i was there they tested my urine to check if i was by lookin at the key tones. and wat they are they check the colour of ur wee against a chart and they can tell if u r dehydrated/ or if ur diet is lacking in something. i got sent home afta tht coz i wasnt dehydrated! they just told me to keep eatin! so dont worry just do wat they have advised you and u will be fine. if u are still concerned ring up ur midwife u will not be bothering her as it is her job to help make u feel comfortable throo out ur pregnancy and birth. hope thts helped & gud luck x

ketones is also a sign of your body burning it's own store's of fat. Being your preg. it probably does mean you need to eat.
