No, and here is why.

No matter what country you are talking about there will be a religious minority, there will never be 100% belief in any one religion.

SO if you give power to a religious authority you are automatically alienating a segment of the population. Never a good way to start things.

Another reason why not is that religious regimes have a tendency to force their beliefs on the people. For example the fundamentalist Christian movement in the US try to evangelize others in an attempt to spread their beliefs. If they got into power they would use the government to impose their beliefs on the entire nation.

In interest of fairness and justice to all the answer if a resounding no.

No, no, no, no, no. At least with elected leaders we can take action and vote them out, what gives an elitist minority group the right to decide for us? As an atheist it would certainly mean that I finally took the step I've pondered for awhile, and leave these shores.

Also, just look at the wars/conflicts etc around the globe, how many of those are caused by differences in religion? I think religion is a dangerous beast.

Not a chance!

Why should i have my life be run by somebody with a belief system i dont beleive in?

I rarely beleive in our own political system

however

Things i do or say can make a change to political policies
But theres nothing i can do to change the writings of a religion

Our laws are already governed by the 10 commandments in one way or another!!!!

As an atheist id rather this country was run by elected officials rather than god or allahs or ganeshs bilble punching minions!

That rather depends on the religion. Definitely none of the Judea-Christian religions. Maybe the Hindus or Sikhs could make a reasonable job of government.
