I have a co-worker (which I wrote about him on here before) that lies-by-proxy. He will lie about other's success. He will lie about stuff to make himself seem more knowledgeable.

That is not lying by proxy. That is just lying. He would be lying by proxy if he was lying trough you or someone else.

But lying is lying, so yes, although he is lying in the example you gave, he would still be lying if he was really proxy lying.
