He is from Morehead City North Carolina and we have visted there many times I always have loved the politness of the people and the beaches but I'm a shy person and I'm worried about being able to make friends and how people will react to me and my kids we are mixed race.

Every move requires adjustment. I am from Charleston. It is a beautiful city filled with wonderful people--of course, I am a bit biased since it is my hometown.

Like anywhere else, some parts of Charleston are better than others. Talk to your realtor and be very upfront about what you are looking for in a community.

As for making friends, so much depends on your interests, but that is true no matter where you live.

I thought the comment about the south being "slower" is funny. I moved to DC seven years ago. Everything takes longer here than it takes in Charleston. Why? Traffic.

No mater what you choose to do, good luck to you!

Most people who are not from the South tend to have preconceived ideas about the South and people from the South. They are slow and backward, the towns are not modern and the people are all barefoot. That is not the case at all. Charleston is a lovely city with lots of things to do, steeped in history yet not living in the past.

If you move there, do so with an open mind and I am quite sure that you will fall in love with the area and from now on think of it as home.

Good luck!

The south has citties too. it isn't like you're moving to Mayberry, RFD. As far as being accepted as a mixed race couple, that is something you deal with anywhere. There are racists all over. The only difference I have ever seen in the south is that down there, the racists are honest about how they feel.

Yes, it's alot slower than most big cities. Most southerners are wonderful people and very nice. You or your children shouldn't have any problems making new friends.
