"The same" is an easy answer, but it's not the only one!

People are forgetting that the word "opposite" has more than one meaning. So its antonym (opposite) may vary, depending on which use you are referring to.

Check out meanings for the word at:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/opposite
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/opposite

Here are antonyms for various senses of the word:

1) meaning 'radically/completely different'... -> '(exactly) (a)like, 'same, similar, equivalent, identical'

2) meaning 'on the other side' -> 'on the same side'

3) meaning 'disagreeing' -> 'agreed'

4) meaning antonym -> 'synonym'

5) meaning 'antagonist, oppoent, adversary' -> 'friend, supporter, ally'

6) meaning 'in a corresponding, parallel or complementary role' (e.g., 'playing opposite' someone in the theater) -> 'mismatched, disconnected, unrelated' !

"Not opposite", "the same" is the opposite of "different". "Not opposite" can be equal or different, but not opposite.
