US$350 biweekly for two adults is high, especially if you're not eating out. I spend about $60 a week on myself, and I eat plenty of fresh food, but I prepare my food myself. I avoid prepared foods, salad bars, the deli counter, or any other luxury service at the supermarket. I get a lot of caloric mileage out of cooked brown rice, potatoes and yams, whole grain cereal.

In the interest of a long and satisfying marriage, consider going out on a date with your husband at least one night a week, especially when children are in the picture! And if that means being served dinner at a reasonably priced restaurant, so be it.

$350 a week for just the two of you sounds to me way over the top. What in the world are ya doing - ordering up delivery pizzas every day? My husband gives me $225 a week housekeeping, that includes food, household cleaning stuff and food for our four big dogs. And we aren't eating any junkfood either. I buy fresh fruits and veggies, and the best cuts of meat. We eat well, and I still manage to stash away anything up to $50 of it at the end of the week. I think you need to sit down and do a little pen and paperwork and pay attention to what it is that is sopping up so much of your money. Make a budget and aim at having so much left over, which you then salt away, and maybe at some point start investing in a few shares of good quality stock.

That's not a lot of money unless it's just for groceries. Then it's plenty. You can start by listing the things you need and would like to buy. Then get an idea of how much they cost and adjust. If you're spending too much for groceries look at high bulk foods a few meals, like macaroni & cheese, etc.

To me that is a lot of money to spend on your food budget. It really depends on what you buy and what your food tastes are.

I am lucky, my wife and I cook, mostly my wife but I pitch in, so we save a lot on our food budget. Currently ours is between 150 and 200 a month for a family of 4 and that is in a state where the sales tax on food is 9.25%!!

A good way to gage what your food budget should be is to keep receipts for a month and get back at the end of the month and see how much you spent on food. Then, you can trim unnecessary food purchases and achieve a good budget with out starving yourselves. You'd be surprised how much you can actually spend if you are not careful.

I also live in a two person household. How much you spend on groceries depends totally on how you want to eat. If you eat filet mignon, you're going to need a lot more in your budget then the couple that is eating ground chuck.

It's impossible for someone else to figure out your budget. We don't know if you're buying name brands or the store brand. We don't know if you're buying steak or ground beef.

700 a month seems high for just 2 people on groceries only. We spend about 325 to 350 a month for 2 adults, and we are not vegetarians ;)
