Ok so, I picked up this second job, cleaning this guys house that I know real well. He told me that I need to start a business like that. He called around and gave other people my number in case they needed a house keeper. I have had a few calls but have not answered because I don't know what to charge.

I have my house cleaned weekly. I also have two friends who clean houses. They all charge $20 per hour. The first time they clean, they usually charge between $150-200, and make sure to clean every little nook and cranny. Including on top of the refrigerator. Then...it is about $200 per month, based on once weekly. This comes out to around 2.5 hours each time. If you do the math, you will be able to clean at a maximum four houses each day (with travel time taken into consideration). This works out to 20 customers (based on a five day work week). This price includes you bringing your own cleaning supplies and vacuum. OK, with 20 customers at $200 per month, you will be grossing $4,000 per month. No too bad. Do not clean for $10.00 per hour. You will only gross $2,000 maximum (working your tail off) and you will be exhausted for very little gain after you pay for your own supplies. Go for it! My two friends are very independent and happy at what they do.

I would not charge by the hour because depending on the amount of chores you have to do, the number of hours you would work would change frequently. (Example, if you clean windows on Friday, it won't need to be done on Saturday).

I would charge a flat fee for a certain amount of chores, and any other chores they want done would be extra for each chore.

Look in your local paper to see the average amount people are willing to pay for these services, then decide your own price.
