Am I the only one who thinks "next-gen" gaming is a big piece of turd? What the hell happened? I own a PS3 which is supposedly the most advanced gaming system. Before it launched, it was said that the next generation of gaming will allow players to control CGI images like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Just the thought of that was mind blowing! But now with the xbox 360 and ps3, we have LONGER load times in games, graphics not much better that the last gen games (e.g. jaggies, cardboard cutout audience members, background people have fingerless hands, slow frame rates in some games, etc). I spent a fortune on the new PS3, each game costs $60+tax and all I got was a stupid piece of high definition turd.

Well I agree with you on the PS3. You got hosed. But then again, it was your choice to be an early adoptor of a new game system. You could have done some research and easily known that the launch line up for the PS3 was garbage with the exception of Resistance. But really, how long can you play Resistance before it gets old? I played it for a couple weeks and the luster wore off quick.

In terms of HD gaming.....have to disagree with you there. I've been gaming a long time and graphically the difference between last-gen and next-gen systems in remarkable. Sure there are jaggies in some games....it's inevitable. However, the fans look amazing in the 2K sports games on the 360...some of the best cg crowds ever.

The bottom line is that you should have researched your purchase instead of buying into the hype. I was buying the PS3 as more of a Blu-Ray player than a gaming system because I knew that the must-have killer applications weren't available for the platform yet. That's why I also own a 360....over 100 games....and some that are simply amazing. Add the availibility of XBox Live to that formula and you have a winner. If you want to see real next-gen graphics check out Gears of War. It didn't win GotY for nothing.

However, if you choose to remain loyal to the Sony brand...give it a few months (maybe quarters lol) and they'll get something out worth owning. I think they're still fine-tuning the possibilties for the cell processor. And heck...they may even get all of their games running at 1080p 60fps like they promised at launch.

You are kinda right. Next gen isn't all that they made it out to be. I think they hyped it up so big so they have a reason to raise their game prices to $60.

I noticed long load times and slower frame rates also. For example: WWE Smackdown vs Raw for X-Box 360 is an awesome game but the load times take longer than what I can remember on Sega Saturn. Also, when you try to do a finishing move and other heavy grapple moves in a steel cage, the animation moves so slow...even slower than it's normal bullet time animation.

So true. But I have a wii, and it rules. The graphics in Sonic and the Secret rings are amazing, especially the battles against Erazor Djinn and Alf Wayla wa Layla.
For the console's launch, don't expect too much inprovement. Wait for a while, and it gets better.

Well, I would suggest the one sure-fire answer to the crappy "next-gen" consoles: Don't get one. But it's too late for that, so, just stuff it in your closet or something and let it collect dust until some halfway decent games come out. Like, for example, Final Fantasy XIII (which won't come until next year, according to EGM). Me, I'll just stick with my Gamecube and GBA SP (and hope for a DS). Although there has been a small desire for a Wii growing in me...

It hasn't been out for a year, thus it's too early to judge. The first six months of a console (especially a super-high-end one) can be expected to have problems. This Christmas, though, you can expect to see plenty of good games.

you should have waited until they worked out all of the bugs in the ps3. it's really REALLY horrible how sony released it earlier then they should have. one of my friends got one right when it came out, and it over heated to the point of blowing up. it sounds rediculous, but it's true. in a year, they'll release a ps3 that's smaller, more efficient, and not as crapy.
