There is/was a cigarette called Lucky Strike. One of the additives used in the 1950's early 60's was a mint flavoring. Since it was supposed to be subtle it was called "a hint of mint". (The term could actually be older than that but the use by cigarette advertising in the 50's/60's is when I first heard it).

How it evolved into meaning someone might be gay, I have no idea. Probably came along with "light in the loafers"

What does hint of mint would desire to do with somebody being gay in nature??? And what does its factor of beginning would desire to do with something? i'm uncertain of the place the term became into coined inspite of the undeniable fact that it maximum probable had not something to do with somebody being "gay"
