Why is the food tax higher than cigarettes in the state of Tennessee?

I live here in TN and I am appalled that our govenor would let something like this happen. I found out about this when I was reading the paper.

Maybe they want people to start eating cigarettes instead of food! It is really stupid that food tax is higher than cigarettes, I thought they were trying to make people stop smoking and thats not going to do it! They should get rid of food tax and place a nice heafty tax on cigarettes!

Tennessee is a big producer of tobbacco, yes? Like W recently said, "Sometimes money trumps peace." It also trumps reason, health, the environment and the lower and middle classes too.

Cigarettes in Tennessee are SO cheap!!! I bought a butt-load of em when I was there for Bonnaroo a few years back!

Well i know in Arkansas, food tax is more expensive, b/c that extra tax goes towards other things, such as road improvement.

I don't think so.
Cigarettes have the heaviest taxes of all.
A pack cost about a buck but the rest is taxes.
Like to know where you get your information from.

Because more people need to eat than to smoke cigarrettes!!!
