A prime number is one which has only itself and 1 as proper divisors. That is, 7 is prime (since only 1 will divide it exactly) while 6 is not (since it can be factored into 2*3) The 'prime factorization theorem' says that *any* non-prime (or 'composite) number can be factored into prime numbers and that the factorization is unique.

If some alien culture wanted to indicate that it was try ing to communicate, it might send out a composite number (say 24 beeps) followed by 2, 2, 2, and 3 (which is the prime factorization of 24).

Prime numbers are any number that is divisible only by 1 or itself. Prime numbers are always odd except two which is prime and even. One is also prime.
We think that any technological beings will figure the relation of primes and would be one thing we would have in common.
We may never prove that extraterrestrials exist, but we can be sure they do.

a prime number is a number that is only divisable by itself examples are: 1,3,5,7,13, and so on. I do not believe that they will help in any way to prove the existance of aliens. To prove the existance of extraterrestrial life, we would either need photographs, videos, a personal encounter, or a detailed, decipherable coded message from across the stars.
