I was shopping at the mall and I was surprised at how many new tops look like maternity tops. I even tried one on because I liked it so much. It was awful. I looked like a pregnant wanna be. I thought it might just be me. But, a few stores later I was in the Gap fitting room and I overheard a conversation. One female said to another, "I like this top, but it looks like a maternity top." Anyone else not thrilled with this new trend?

I actually really like them. I am a little larger and those shirts look good on me. They don't make me look pregnant at all, but rather slim me down. A major reason I like them is the length...shirts had been getting way too short over the past few years, but these are great!

As someone suggested, for smaller girls, who may not be so curvy, try a smaller size on. I've seen a lot of thin girls who look cute in them as well.

I have a skinny figure I like to show of. I do like the empire waist dresses though, and I wear it with a 4inch wide belt, right under the chest, so that you can see my figure. I think an empire waist top can work with a super skinny belt put right under the chest, and super skinny jeans, with some hot pumps, thats the only way to make it work.

just noticed double z made a good point with a jacket, like a jean crop jacket, that's a good idea

They do sometimes...did you try a smaller size? I dont wear them, but when my daughter went a size smaller it wasn't so big in the front. What's equally bizarre is that pregnant women don't wear those much anymore...it seem like they're all wearing tight tops! Go figure!!!

I love those shirts they fit me just right...and if i'm having a day where my jeans are tight the shirt hides it all....the best places for them are"Forever 21,Charlotte Russe, and Rainbow"thats where I saw them...I bought 4 at forever 21 for only 3.99 each on sale and 1 at charlotte russe for 10.00 and saw them at rainbow from 3.00-20.00 but didn't buy any there....but I plan on buying some in the future for vacation.......

I agree. They are everywhere, and that's what's in. But, sorry to say I love them! Very cute with skinny jeans. They just look so casual and chic.

Yes it does resemble a maternity clothes. Well its called the Umpire waste. it actually helps if you have curves cause it hides a lot of stuff and a great wat to make it work for you is with a jacket.
