i would like to spend the rest of my life there

errr, I think we have the same kind of jobs as you do in the States. As you are an English speaker, you could find work in tourism. Make sure you know some French first.

What languages do you have? Citizenship?

If you're EU, there are plenty of options, especially if you're willing to take a low-level one for awhile. Speaking French will help, so start learning or improving what you already have. If you're not from the EU, then it can be really hard to get work there unless you're a student.

The rest of your life is a long time. Take it one month at a time.

Go to your local library or bookshop and find a travel guide to France. That should include information on what you need to work there. It varies depending on your citizenship.
