I have not seen the product that I am thinking of and I am hoping to carry it out with as little money as possible as I am a student and obviously I havent got much to invest. I have no knowledge of business.

Phone the patent office first,in london or cardiff-they will tell you not to reveal the idea to anyone-then you can put a patent application in-if you do it through an agent its expensive, but you could do it yourself cheaper. There are plenty of grants available for serious business ideas.Dont build up your hopes too high.

Get a patent, which will take some time, but I believe you can just make it saying it's patent pending. Then either sell the patent, or sell production rights to it(where someone else produces the product, but you get royalties).

First thing to do is get it patented. Visit the patenting office website and find out more.

Once it is patented you can approach anyone and talk openly about your product to get more advice without the fear of it getting copied.
