I want to start a home-based business. Any ideas? I can type 65 wpm, I am bilingual (Spanish and English), and I am a freelance writer (published several times.) What would be the best choice of a business to start up with those skills? I really really want to do this and need to do it to help with the bills.

Check into a personal assistant/concierge service. You can utilize all of your skills and make a great deal of money. Start-up is extremely low, considering getting flyers, brochures, and/or business cards printed. For inspiration and/or ideas, check out my concierge website (it is free with Freewebs) and see if this is something that you are interested. I wish you the best and hope that this helps you in starting your own home based business.

P.S. Do a search for other concierge companies.

Have you thought of offering an editorial service? A resume writing service? People will pay quite a nice sum of money for a great resume that gets results. (And you'll have the good feeling of knowing that you helped them acheive a career goal when they get the interview because of your help.)

You might consider making a brochure that lists your editorial skills (proofreading, editing, copywriting, etc.) along with your rates and distributing it to local businesses. You never know if someone locally is looking for a hand with their employee newsletter or other publication.

If you've got the skills, or know someone who does, create a web presence for yourself so that you can tap into markets outside your community. Offer PayPal as a way for consumers to pay via credit card. (Saves you the hassle of having to figure out how to accept credit cards.)

Best of luck to you!
