I have been a ferret owner for over 10 years and currently own 4. (Lord help me! haha)

I have found that ferrets always seem happier with a friend. I recommend it if you budget allows it.

They are better with other ferrets, but you can have a single one as long as you can spend a lot of time with them. I mean just about as much as a dog or cat (4 hrs or more a day). I have a happy, single ferret, but he gets the run of the house most of the day and will either chew on my toes or curl up next to me the whole time.

ferrets are social animals and are better with a partner. They for life, and are not really happy without someone to play with.

One ferret will do fine although if you can't spend enough time with it i'd get two. My ferret is happy and she's a only ferret.
