Because Megadeth gets about 1/100th the amount of radio play as does Metallica.
Also, a lot of people don't like Dave Mustaine's voice and it turns them off to the entire band.
Some people don't like Megadeth's ever-changing member line-up either. They have had 18 official members of the band and some people like consistency and don't want to hear new members every other year.

Metallica sold more albums then Megadeth, because they had Cliff Burton, and Dave wasted a lot of money that was ment for production on drugs. Dave was resonsible for the sound of Kill'em all with help from James and Lars, where Cliff was responsible for Ride the Lightning threw And Justice with the help of James and Lars. After James and Lars used up all of Cliff's material, then they got Bob Rock, and now will be using Rick Ruben to tell them how to make there music. Dave for the most part makes music the same as he always has, and don't need anybody to hold his hand.
Which I'm glad Dave got kicked out of Metallica, or else there might not ever had been Angry Again.

Cuz megadork sucks, but not as much as those money-grubbing wanna be's in metallica. Find some good hard rock, maybe motorhead.

The trick to selling albums is to suck but be very polished. Megadeath sucks much less than Metallica, thereby making them less accessible to the average idiot.

I honestly think it was Dave Mustaine's voice. It's unique and I think that turned people off. I know I never really cared for his voice. I like more of a growl. Thats just my take on it.
