If your friends were drowning who would you save?

Well this seems a silly question, we've no reason to believe concretely in life on other planets yet, it's probable but not proven yet. Also they would need far better tech to traverse long distances.
As for drowning friends, I'd save myself first, in a catastrophe you should ensure your survival before worrying about others, because you're no use to anyone dead.

Just buy some floats and keep on hand with a pump, in case of a flood , tie yourself to the float with some garlic (so sea animals wont eat ya)
float off in the ocean and on to near land.
