Between Alexander and Bush, Alexander is the better running back but Bush is the better athlete. Bush can catch passes out of the backfield, down field, sideways, any way really. Alexander is the better runner and you can rely on him to get you 100 yards plus on 20-25 carries.

But the best running back in the N.F.L. is LaDainian Tomlinson.

Shuan is a smarter player right now, Reggie just came out of college. Reggie is still learning the game on this level, and getting all of the fundamentals down. Alexander already has that down, and was chosen for the MVP, and is on a madden case. But in a few years i can see reggie being better than shaun, but not now

Out of those two only it is definately Alexander. Reggie wasn't even the big impact rookie for his team. That went to the seventh rounder named Marques Colston. Reggie Bush will most likely fall in line with Brian Westbrook as a dominant receiving back, but I just don't see him being a force YET as a starting running back. Duece is still the guy they need in there. As far as Alexander, he has the experience, the NFL MVP award, and runs with nearly no backup. He is a more dominant runner in the game and provides to do well out of the backfield. Bush might become better later on in his career, but he just hasn't showed his running back skills like Maurice Jones-Drew or Joseph Addai.

Neither one, Ladanian Tomlinson is the best. He just broke Shaun Alexander's record for most TDs in a season. Reggie Bush will be good, but not as good as LT. LT even had a couple TD passes.

dude...i have no idea why i am answering this silly question, but i am going to anyway. the best running back in the nfl is tomlinson, then the second guy in the nfl is larry johnson. shaun alexander and reggie bush aren't even in the top two, so how the (explicative) can you even ask this question. i might even be so bold as to say that reggie bush isnt even in the top ten. i would even place two back up running backs (maurice jones-drew and michael turner) higher than bush. get a clue!

LaDainian Tomlinson is the best, there's no competition. He can do it all, Alexander is a great back, but he's not even close to LT. Bush is a dynamic player, and has the skillset to one day make the kind of highlight reel plays that the NFL and ESPN covet, but he's not the same runner that LT is. LT can do everything a RB needs to do, and do it better than almost anyone who's played the game in the last 15 years.

........you've got to be kidding me right? LaDainian Tomlinson is hands down the best back in the league. Larry Johnson is probably 2nd, having a youth advantage on Shaun. Reggie might break out in the NFL (though nowhere as good as he was in college) but at his small size (only 200lbs for a guy who's almost 6 foot? 6 foot RBs are generally 220-230lbs) he might not last every down.

this guy above me said Mike Vick. Give me a break.

Out of the two, Alexander has done way more in his career and has proven he can handle a huge workload. Bush has not. I say Bush has a lot more upside than Alexander but he is still very unproven.

As said by everyone before me, Tomlinson and Larry Johnson are both better than the two guys you named.

Well...leaving Tomlinson out....and choosing between those two....

Alexander is more established right now and we know he's outstanding in short yardage or "home runs" but we have yet to see Bush excell in short yardage, although he can certainly bust some huge plays off. Between the two right now though, I would still have to go with Bush being the better running back because he's going to improve going into next year, although his number still wont be there because of McAllister.
