I don't know. Why do some people who believe in a Higher Being insist on trying to shove their beliefs down other people's throats?

We don't usually have ANY problems with people who believe in a higher being. Where we have a problem is in being forced to endure the pushing of their beliefs on us. That is where the problem arises. If those who believe would just leave us alone, there would be no problems at all.

When those that do believe refuse to respect the rights of others to NOT believe and push their dogma into laws to govern all, you are going to have a problem. If the Hebrew and Islamic were to Outlaw pork and pork products for everyone, do you think that would be right or fair? It's the exact same difference. If you believe a certain way, it is up to you to keep that belief but you have no right to attempt to force others to follow it.

A lot of scientists are 'hostile' towards people who believe in God because we want to live a truthfull life. One which is as factual as we can establish. Of course there is no disproof of a 'higher being' but then there is no disproof of santa claus! I suppose as fellow humans we just expect a ceratin degree os common sense.

Well I don't mean to be rude, but may I ask why you, a person who clearly believes, would ask such a question here? I ask only because most, not all, believers tend to hate gays and lesbians, also, are you implying, by asking your question here, that we are hostile towards believers.

Further, given that believers tend to not only be hostile but are in fact violent towards us, why would you be surprised if were hostile to believers anyway?

It's not that we're hostile about others beleifs because I could care less what others believe. That's them no biggy, but when others try to force their own God beliefs upon me I become very irritated. Don't preach to those who do not beleive and you will be met with far less aggression!

I think your wrong there..... I certainly dont have a problem with anyone who does believe in a higer being..... but those who do believe seem to have a problem when I say.... I look within and see myself, not any higher being live and let live is my motto

It may not be that many don't beleive. It's that there is a small but very vocal segment of the religious has seen fit to tell the rest of this nation how to live, to the point of enacting their views into laws and constitutional amendments.

It is not the people I have a problem with. It is their judegemental and holier than thou attitudes. Judge not lest ye be judged if people want to start quoting scripture. I am so thankful I do not have to judge others today. We are all equal on this big old earth.

A lot of people who do believe, tend to be didactic and preachy about what you should believe. It doesn't help that Hell is mentioned in every second sentence, and that a lot of believers are so smug and self-righteous. I do believe in God, but maybe not everyone would believe in my version. I'm fine with that.
