Do you think we should or should not scrape daylight savings time.

Me, I'm in favour of getting ride of it. I know that I get the blues in the winter, not enough sun. You go to work it's dark, you come home it's dark. I really think that we should change it this weekend and then leave it alone.

I guess I would look at what would be most cost-effective. Having Daylight Savings Time helps because people can leave the lights off until later in the evening. Very, very few people get up at 5:00 AM, when the sun would rise during the summer - and those who do are used to being in the dark most of the year anyway. So DST makes sense.

We go off DST for the winter because there's just not enough sunny hours. We strike a balance so that it might be dark at 4:30 PM, but at least it's not dark at 7:30 AM when kids might be going to school, or 3:30 PM when they are coming home.

I think changing the clocks twice a year must add its own costs and inefficiencies, though. It's a pain in the neck, since we all have so many clocks these days! Wristwatch, alarm, computer, car, TV, etc. I have to change about a dozen. Businesses must have to do a lot of work too.

Bottom line: I reluctantly say that this system seems to work best. I do wish there were some way to not have to switch the clocks though.

Maybe split the difference, and move the clocks ahead a HALF hour, and leave them there? I think India uses the half hour, maybe as some kind of geographic/temporal compromise.

Me, I like getting up early. But I know most others don't!

Daylight savings time was originally started to save energy by shifting our active patterns so we had daylight longer into the evening hours. But, that was during WW2, and electric usage was mostly lighting. Today's electric usage is going to TVs, computers, and the tons of servers we use to access websites, just to name a few. Many of our appliances consume energy in a "standby mode" even when they are off. The energy savings just isn't there.

Most people who want DST admit it provides them with daylight after they get home from work. They have time to jog, or play sports before it gets dark. But, the problem with leaving DST in place is that in winter the amount of daylight is short. Children waiting for the bus would be waiting in the dark. Those walking to school would be walking in the dark. It is considered too dangerous, both due to traffic, and child-predator concerns. That is why we switch back and forth.

Please no! I just spend two days updating all the pertinent software to be able to handle the early daylight savings time and I really don't want to go through that again.

what I do not get is how moving daylight savings time back three weeks is going to effect energy consumption. I am still awake for the same amount of time, and I will now just be turning my lights on an hour earlier in the morning. and Turing them on an hour later at night. so really all the legislation has effectively done is switch consumption from the pm to am hours.

I am so glad my tax dollars are working for me.

All the people that are in favor of getting rid of it should be taken out and shot.

Sorry, but in June, I really don't need the sun coming up at 4 am and setting at 8 pm. I'd much prefer it be 6 am to 10 pm, but I'll settle for 5 am - 9 pm.

Don't scrape it! I need that extra hour of daylight in the evenings. Where I live it's hot and very humid. Too humid in the mornings to do anything outside(that includes grocery shopping), and that is the only time(evening) I can do yard work.

i think it's a pain and i like how they say change it at 2 am it doesn't matter if you change it at 12 or 1, 3, or 4 you still get the same time. they should just pick one fall back a hour or spring ahead a hour. one or the other will work for me. but more then likely they will keep it this way. i say get rid of it and pick one or the other. the farmers know what they need to do in that time frame.

Yep, me too. Leave the time alone. Only I'm for leaving it on Standard Time.
