I am pregnant and got "sick" in my bedroom a few nights ago. My husband and I used a steam cleaner that we got from my in-laws after we got up the bulk. The steam cleaner had a bunch of leaks and despite the fact that we kept our windows open (brrr) and put a small fan directly on the spot, the extremely thick remained wet for days. I had it professionally cleaned yesterday, but once it dried it smelled worse! Please help!!!

Hello Shaunice , You need a humidifier this will help to take the water out . Think what you could try is wash the one area again . Just use some off your own hair shampoo , this works just as good as any other carpet shampoo . Once this area has been washed ,and all the soap suds removed , lay a towel with a heavy object on top leave over night , this will help to soak up any remaining water from the underside of your carpet . then use the humidifier at night and if you can leave the windows open in the day time so the carpet gets lots of fresh air. Hope this helps you

You will never get rid of the mildew. There is a common misconception; bleach kills mold and mildew. This is false. There is a two step process to rid mold and mildew that is a commercial product not sold to consumers. It will also not save your carpet. Once carpet has became soaked it will need to be detach from the carpet tack strip immediately! You will need to then purchhase a high flow drying fan put the outlet of the fan UNDER the carpet near the saturated area so that the moving air dries from the inside out. This is the only way to save saturated carpet and large rugs. It only takes around 24 to 28 hours for excessive amounts of moisture to begin growing mold spores. At 48 Hours excessive amounts of moisture have became Black Water, which in laymens terms is sewage water. Get your friends to help remove the rug for you, discard it. Now clean the floor the best you can sweep up any loose dust dirt so on. If the subflooring does not matter to you. Paint or polyurethane the floor this will seal any possible mold spores. You will never smell it again. Call your local carpet retailer have a new piece installed. In referance to your question that you had it professionally cleaned you had an amature cleaning company come in he should have known what i have told you... If you want professional carpet cleaners; contact your local Service Master Clean. They deal with water damage restoration. This is where I learned and recieved a cert. in mold , mildew, and black water. Good luck and try to stay out of that room remember what you breathe your baby does.

The best way to rid of house odors, including mildew smell such as you have, is to use an Electrostatic Filter on your furnace. I installed an Electrostatic Filter on my furnace 2 years ago. I had a musty smelling basement, living room, and back laundry room. GONE with that electrostatic installation. You can view just what this piece of equipment will do on the Carrier website. They make furnaces and air condition equipment.

It removes ODOR, mold, mildew, viruses, bacteria, pollen and
all small particles from your house air. I have alergies and this piece of equipment got rid of those bothersome things from our house air. Even when you cook onions, the smell is immediately gone from the house. Even if you paint a room and run the blower, it removes the smell.

I am most pleased because it rid our basement and whole home of those mildew smells. You will be most happy with this solution as it is a permanent fix. And you will get immediate results. The cost is about $800 installed and about $450 if you buy one yourself and do the sheet metal work.

This is not some new invention. These have been used for over 30 years or more. There is a blue light gadget out that shines on the incomming air into a furnace blower and Ive heard that works well also. I have no experience with that.
