What is your opinion on reparations for slavery? Is it realistic? Is it moral?

No, I do not feel that reparations should be paid blacks for slavery and for that matter do I feel we owe them an apology. Before you compare slavery with victims being paid for their part in the Holocaust look at the differences between slavery and the Holocaust. Many perpetrators of the Holocaust are still alive, as are the victims. With slavery, none of the perpetrators are alive. Not all white people living here in the US are even descendants of slave holders which course the issue of slaves follows the same reasoning. Many families here immigrated here after the Civil War. Who do you suggest should pay reparations? How would the government determine who contributes? If the government just gave a chunk of its money for reparations it would be money that it collected in taxes from white, black, Asian, Mexican, Irish, German, Americans, etc. Thus the contributors, many of whom have no ties to slavery in this country, would be paying a bill they did not incur. There is no feasible and fair way to do it. Also, throughout history entire nations, peoples, and citizens have been wronged. In fact many African nations were and continue to be involved in the trading of slaves and certain should be required to participate in any reparation. If we go back far enough we can find the ancestors of many Americans if not all, had something bad done to them, especially women. Women didn't have the freedoms that we enjoy today. Should they seek reparations? Why should anyone pay someone something they didn't earn? Life isn't about taking from others, it's about earning.

Finally, there are the deaths of more than 650,000 whites who ended the system of American slavery. I say a payment in blood is reparation enough for anyone.

God Bless You and Our Southern People.

Nothing at all! Reparations is another con game. An African offered to help people of the same ancestry apply for reparations for a fee. They will never get any money, but he certainly does if anyone is gullible enough to pay him...and I am certain some people will pay him. It is silly to claim payment is due for something that happened long ago. I take full responsibility for my actions, and I never owned slaves, and my great grandmother said her family owned none in the 1860's. Even if my father or my brother owned slaves, I would not be obligated to anyone due to their actions. The whole thing is silly and not moral at all.

They are owed nothing. It's been 143 years since the Emancipation Proclamation, and while it's been a long tough road for the decendants of the slaves, it's time to quit playing the race card, and take responsibility for your FUTURE. My family were not even in the US when slavery was an issue...should I have a legal, financial, or moral obligation to the decendants of people who haven't been held in bondage for almost 150 years? I think not.

We do not have to pay for the sins of our fathers. My family isn't even from the South. I am against slavery and I am not a racist person. Many apologies have already been given. Descendants have to decide whether or not they are happy to have been born in the United States; or if they would have been better off growing up in Africa. At least living in the U.S. is a positive thing. People need to earn their own living.

I would like to know when my white relatives are going to get the checks owed for building the Great Wall of China? Seriously, Black tribes conquered each other and sold the loser to the white traders to be shipped this way....Does anyone read the small print in the history books??? We are supposed to be equals, right? If that is the case, why should we owe anyone? Affirmative action??? We are all one race, the human race....I'm so tired of hearing about how one race is being mistreated. Can we just get alone now.I believe the government has paid enough money over the years to special interest groups and we should move on......This horse is dead>>>>>

Considering that African cultures did and still do engage in slavery, I say it is not a viable solution for what ttheir ancestors suffered. And I know it's not popular, but I still say that the current generations are far far better off by being in this country than being in Africa.

If someone is violently ejected from their land and then that land has a nuclear war, wouldn't it make sense for them to see the silver lining? Well, considering that about 25% of the African population seems to have AIDS and there are constant internecine struggles, it seems to me that someone would see the silver lining.

sure! and blacks of egyptian historic past could pay reparations to the jews for the slavery we study contained in the bible. the position's that funds? What in case you stumbled on that the unique sale became made by technique of a black african, as became usually the case? does no longer the unique supplier be only as to blame because the customer? commonly it truly is hostile to the activity of justie to punish someone for the moves of their large-grandparents, yet nonetheless, you're properly desirable in that their descendants prifited from it, so why shouldnt that income be attacked? Now if soneone's large-grandchild of a slaveowner who had 8 babies, and their grandparent had 4 and their parent had 4, they could be a million/128 to blame to pay again funds inherited from their father and mom. usually, it truly is going to be sufficient to purchase a television set. Hooray. A television! nonetheless, africans have their own ill-gotten income out of the slave commerce of their previous to boot. it truly is largely honest and trustworthy to renowned that once pointing the finger and pulling the handbag strings upon the large-grandchildren of slave-vendors. no. no sarcasm, i particularly understand the following...once you're the son of someone who stole one billion money , the completed inheritance could be taken away and given again, because you profited from the moves of your grandparents. sure, we are able to whine that it truly is punishing someone who did no incorrect...yet isn't it both undesirable to advantages someone who has accomplished no suitable? Inheritance is the very source of inequality. in reality human beings pass sources alongside to babies who did not earn it. IF we did not, then easily everyone could start up off quite usually equivalent...make their way in existence on their lonesome 2 feet, and to a a lot more suitable volume they may be the authors of their own destiny.

nothin, there great grand daddies sold them off to the highest bidder just like there still doing. they ought to thank us for saving them from african culture. there just mad cause they know the real blame comes from there own families and people, and want to blame america for there low self esteem. we dont them shiitt and are just lucky to wind up here instead of iran. if they dont like it give them a free ticket to darfur and let them see how much there families have changed. im not racist but these people just want something for nothing and have been given alot in respect to where they came from. what was moral about the whole thing is bringing them top a country that has changed unlike the one they came from from where murder rape and disease is a commom way of life. so go cry simba, simba , simba some where else. besides if you dont belive me look at the crime rates in america and who is responsible for killings, and most of the killings is on there own people to be realalistic. moral in this case comes from the idea of people having an oppertunity to help them selves instead of acting like first class winers.besides alot of geanoligy has been tracing black peoples heritage to white families in inglang so half of them dont really know where they came from to begin with so before you go lookin for kunti kincae find out where you from first idiot

A formal apology and doing our best to make sure that all people - regardless of race, creed, or orientation - are treated equally in all things. Beyond that, I don't know how much more we could do.
