okay I don't know if it makes any difference where things were bought but I will write it anyway, I have an English bought Laptop and I have been burning Octron 4x d.v.d,s bought in Portugal sucessfully, I have now got Benq 8x and Verbatim 16x that I bought in France and they will not burn, with the pack of Benq there was a free Benq rw disc which worked okay but the normal R does not burn, I am using NTI and CYBERLINK and they both refuse to use them, I have no reason to believe they are no good, I think it is me or my computer, is there anyone who can help me sort this problem, I am in Sicily now and I can't buy any more until I know what is wrong, as I will just be buying myself more problems probably, thanks Sue

That's because your burner cannot handle the increased speeds of the new dvd discs. There is a way to fix it by "flashing" the drive. Go to the website of the manufacturer of the dvd burner and look for software to upgrade your burner so that it will be able to read/write to the higher speed discs.

An alternative would be to buy 4x dvds only but those are becoming absolete.

Some DVDs have a copy write protection. that might be the problem for some of them.
