Other than letting the government know that they can control us all? I know it used to be for farmers a long time ago, but why still have it now?

Although it is difficult to measure, it can be argued that daylight savings time actually saves energy. Since summer days are longer, changing the clocks forces people to wake earlier and use more of the "daylight" available during the day. Use of electric lights is reduced. This is usually the reason given for its use, and it is the reason that the Daylight Savings Time season was recently lengthened in the U.S.

It was set up during WWII so that farmers could harvest longer and collect more food to help the war effort. Today it serves a similar purpose, plus many people do not wish to get rid of it.

we still have plenty of farmers in the US since we are the world's largest crops producing country in the world.
