Flame Thrower. Mainly used in the Eastern Front by Germans and in the Pacific Theater against Japanese bunkers, pillboxes, and of course infantry. It is both a powerful weapon and a dangerous weapon. If you got shot in the tank you would go up in flames so fast you can't say "crap". Also it can cause nausea and cause problems. That is why most soldiers preferred the Browning Automatic Rifle or BAR for short. The flame thrower can also be fitted on a M1 Sherman main battle tank. It works when liquid flame is ignited and shoots out like an incredibly hot and dangerous water-gun. The go way back to Greek times in the 500's BC. It was hand pumped and used primarily at sea. Back to modern times the flame thrower was discontinued by the Department of Defense in 1978. The Department saw no need from it with the introduction of laser guided missiles

That would be a Flamethrower. Their is two tanks containing the gas between a cylinder that will be used to mix the gas with air, Then the operator pulls one trigger to move the mix to the gun part through a hose. Then the second trigger will light a ignite setting the gas on fire. Think of Jim Carrer in Dumb and Dummer where he farts and lights a match. It was effective in the pacific theater with all the vegetation and the clearing of pillboxes. It was a good weapons if you can get close to the target. It will be retired after world war two because no one wants to carry a bomb on their back and some got nausea after using the thing because if took all the o2 in the area and the air comes rushing back to the operator. Some tanks were equipped with one as well in WWII.

It is a flamethrower.

It was EXTREMELY dangerous for the soldier or marine who carried it.

It was used to kill people; people in pillboxes in particular. Pillboxes are concrete boxes, like small forts, with gun slits. The flames go in through the gunslits. They can be used on people in caves and tanks, too. Effective range is maybe 40 yards.

A man I met when my daughters and his grand-daughters were both Girl Scouts told me you never forget the smell of a pillbox that has been wiped out by a flame thrower. He'd been a Sea-Bee on Guadalacanal in WWII.

Look up "Flamethrower", "Flame-thrower" or "flame thrower" in Wikipedia for how it worked.

Someone else will have to tell you if it is still used today.

It is called a flamethrower. It is dangerous to the soldier carrying it due to its weight and the short range of the weapon which forces the individual to come nearer although there are modern ones with a longer range. Military flamethrowers use liquids, and commercial flamethrowers use high pressure propane and natural gas.
